The Reason

 APOLOGETICS - A branch of theology devoted to the defense of the divine origin and authority of Christianity.

The phrase translated “to give a defense” or sometimes “give an answer” in 1 Petrer 3:15  comes from the Greek word apologia, which literally means “reasoned defense.” It does not mean to apologize, which is a common misconception among some who are not acquainted with this thrust of Christianity. It means to give a logical defense of the Christian faith.
